Last Friday, the EU’s Commissioner for Trade, Peter Mandelson, met with the Norwegian foreign affairs minister, Jonas Gahr Store, for a half-hour to see if it is possible to resolve the salmon conflict.
The EU asked for the meeting in an effort to avoid Norway bringing the antidumping measures against Norwegian salmon before the World Trade Organization (WTO). Norway’s aim is to get the EU to withdraw its accusations Norwegian salmon producers have dumped salmon in the EU.
Process
The meeting in Davos, Switzerland, where Mandelson and Gahr Store participated at the World Economic Forum, ended with the two political friends agreeing top bureaucrats from both parties should reach agreement on a common understanding of the case before Feb.
