A Scottish producers organization's (PO) leader said the abolition of the prices support scheme as part of the Common Organisation of the Market element of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) reform has already caused a slump in first sale fish prices.

The CFP reform took effect on Jan. 1 this year and Iain MacSween, chair of the Scottish Seafood Partnership (SSP), the United Kingdom's biggest PO, said in his opinion the minimum prices scheme had been “the only sensible bit of the old CFP,” but was “deemed to be unnecessary."
