One of the most influential green pressure groups is to be closed following completion of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) reform.
OCEAN2012 is a coalition of leading environmental groups set up to promote the green agenda in European fisheries and in particular to influence the CFP reform process. It said the reform is now complete and its goals have been achieved.
Pressure from OCEAN2012 was a driving force behind the adoption of the discards ban and the EU commitment to sign up to manage all stocks to meet maximum sustainable yield (MSY) targets, and to end EU overfishing by 2015 where possible and by 2020 at the latest.
