The flavored canned sardines, caught in Portugal, are distributed nationally at many Whole Foods, The Fresh Market, Wild Oats, Ukrop’s, Trader Joe’s, and Shaws supermarkets, and several local health and natural food stores and cooperatives.
The expansion into Hannaford Bros. marks a step forward for the 10-year-old company, said Chief Operating Officer Joshua Scherz.
“It’s a significant move for us,” Scherz told IntraFish. “We were getting a lot of demand from people.”
Three flavors of BELA-Olhao sardines -- extra virgin olive oil, lemon flavored extra virgin oil and tomato sauce -- will be sold in 110 of the Hannaford Bros.’s
