The running to easter saw Portuguese retailers battle it out with cheap bacalao prices.

“If you had been in Portugal last week you could have bought the world’s cheapest clipfish,” Norwegian Seafood Council delegate Christian Nordahl said in the first week of April.

It started with the Pingo Doce chain reducing the price on bacalao -- or clipfish -- crescido size from €7.49 ($9.84) to €5.99 ($7.87), then in the last week of March dropping right down to €4.99 ($6.56); a total price cut of NOK 20 (€2.62/$3.47)
