The MSC in March certified two north Pacific albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga) fisheries operating in U.S., Canadian and international waters. One of the clients was the Western Fishboat Owners Association (WFOA). AAFA received its MSC certification in September 2007.
"It is unfortunate that WFOA was unable to appreciate that MSC had already certified the entire U.S. pole and troll albacore fishery several years ago. AAFA is merely the administrator," the San Diego, Calif.-based association told IntraFish on Thursday.
"All qualified vessels have been eligible to participate from the very beginning.
