German private-label producer Pickenpack sees "big potential" in the Spanish frozen seafood market in spite of the dominating presence of giant Pescanova.

"In France we are successful, even with SIF France and Haleutis," Export Director Marko Mock told IntraFish. "In the UK we are successful even with Young's Bluecrest."

So why not Spain, he asked. Spanish consumers eat around 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of frozen fish per capita, Mock said, slightly below European averages.

That potential, coupled with Pickenpack's ability to produce targeted solutions for retailers, Mock said, could spell success.
