A new analysis conducted by Japanese scientists provides evidence the bluefin tuna population is in more danger than previously thought, despite claims to the contrary, the environmental group Pew said.
The most recent stock assessment, conducted in 2014, put the Pacific bluefin population at just 4 percent of historic unfished levels.
However, "the truth is the population is still in trouble, and its status is likely to worsen if fishermen continue to catch Pacific bluefin tuna at current levels," Pew said in a new post on its website.
