Vice President Rodrigo Sarquis told IntraFish the progress there has been and will continue to be with fisheries regulations and the good standing of the industry and his company were those factors that led the company to invest in a new vessel.
“What we’ve seen in the last few years is that there has been strong competition regarding deep-sea jack mackerel fishing, which basically now involves several factory boats from various countries and the Chilean fleet," said Sarquis.
"At the same time, Chile is making a large effort to regulate its fisheries through a regional fisheries organization, and we’re convinced that it’s necessary to negotiate to have a basis and thereby organize the future.
