Vigo continues to lead in Spain for production of frozen seafood, despite the crisis affecting the sector with companies such as Pescanova, Freiremar and Vieira.
The Alimarket ranking which lists the top 10 frozen seafood companies in Spain found that eight of the top 10 companies are headquartered in Vigo, reports Faro De Vigo.
In 2007, a year before the outbreak of the international financial crisis, Vigo fishing companies occupied six of the top 10 positions.
Falls of these three companies, especially Pescanova, have caused a new balance in the market, benefiting other companies like Pescapuerta, Iberconsa or Marfrio, which have increased their sales by way of internationalization and growth of commercial networks, said the paper.
