When Pescanova started to enter the shrimp production and processing business, it did so in a big way.

Earlier this year, the Spanish giant acquired Ecuador-based Promarisco, one of the largest producers in that country.

It then bought the assets of El Rosario and continued with the purchase of part of the Quirola Group in the second half of the year.

It recently surprised the market with the construction in Nicaragua.

“Pescanova bought 100 percent of Promarisco early this year, and is mainly interested in the big differentiation the company has had in the added-value product segment, breadcrumbed and cooked products with different packaging,” a company executive told IntraFish.
