The maximum allowable catch limit set by the ministry is 810,000 metric tons -- down 68 percent from last year's quota.

Last year’s second season quota was 2.5 million metric tons, Peruvian anchovy fishing giant Copeinca said. The impact of the decrease is yet unknown, a spokesperson for Copeinca told IntraFish.

The season is set to start Nov.
