Heavy snowfall, persistent storms and incessant cold weather is taking considerable toll on Prince Edward Island’s mussel industry.
“(It’s been) absolutely horrible,” Gary Rogers, owner of E & G Rogers Mussel Farms, told the Truro Daily News.
“We’ve been at this ice harvest for probably 25 years and this is the worst winter we’ve ever had — three feet of snow, two feet of slush...thin ice underneath it. Cold temperatures. You name it, we’ve been dealing with it this winter.”
Rogers added some of the processing plants have been shut down for three weeks so it has been impossible to get product.
