Pangasius -- which clocked nearly 5 percent market share in 2011 -- will be replaced by trout as Germany's fifth most-consumed species within this year due to decreased Vietnamese exports.
"It is likely that pangasius' No. 5 position will be lost to trout within this year," Matthias Keller, managing director of the German Fish Processors Association, told IntraFish.
Though pangasius currently commands nearly twice the market share of cod in Germany, the reduced export volumes from Vietnam are behind this change.
This news comes soon after Vietnam was sounding positive about meeting overall export targets for 2012, despite banks reportedly turning their banks on pangasius farmers and exporters.
