The well-documented increase in cod volumes, and the resulting fall in prices – Norwegian frozen H&G cod exports have dropped NOK 5.76/kg (€0.75/$1) in the last year to NOK 14.03/kg (€1.8/$2.4), for example – is having a knock-on effect on the prices of pangasius, and other factors are conspiring to keep markets soft for the farmed whitefish.
The price of pangasius is currently hovering between $2.40 (€1.8) and $2.60 (€2) per kilo, some 10-20 percent lower than previous years, according to two EU traders.
