Orders of pangasius into European markets are on the rise after a sluggish start, Kaptijn told IntraFish, and this is especially true in Poland, where a rise of 3 percent in imports in 2008 was followed by a backlog this year.
Frozen blocks were stored for months and business was slow, he said.
“If you compare 2009 with 2008 the first half of the year has been very difficult. We have seen a drop of around 10 percent in pangasius,” said Kaptijn.
