The total allowable catch remaining is between 36,000 tons and 37,000 tons, and when rolled-over catch is added, the number should end up between 40,000 tons and 42,000 tons, Paul Gilliland, CEO of Seattle-based Bering Select, told IntraFish.
“Prices are up from last winter, and that’s encouraging, but certainly they’re nowhere near the level they were a year ago, but they are up and will continue to trend up slightly,” Gilliland said.
Prices for J-cut cod were being quoted at around $3,500 (€2,475) a ton in Asia, while collarbone-on fish heading to Europe were coming in around $3,700 (€2,616) a ton, he said.
