Pacific Aquaculture, the fish farming division of Oregon-based giant Pacific Seafoods Group, is in a unique position: They are located in Washington state, squarely in the middle of the Colville Native American tribe's territory.
"We’re regulated by the federal government rather than by Washington state,” John Bielka, general manager at Pacific Aquaculture, told Fish Farming International. This poses some interesting challenges -- and some even better perks.
