The oyster aquaculture industry, which is newer than the clam business, fared better, according to the report.
Clam growers reported $21.7 million (€17 million) in sales last year, a $5.6 million (€4.4 million) drop from 2008, while oyster sales jumped 26 percent, reaching a record high of $12.6 million (€9.9 million).
