Austevoll Seafood Group faced a tough first Peruvian anochveta season this year due to oceanic conditions, CFO Britt Katherine Drivenes told the audience at the IntraFish Seafood Investor Forum in London last week in London.

Warm water caused by Kelvin waves meant the fleet was only able to catch 1.7 million metric tons before the season closed, well under the quota. Worse, the Peruvian government has now delayed the second season after research vessels turned up a poor forecast.

Austevoll bought into the Peruvian fishery in 2004, when it acquired Austral Group.
