The early agreement means there should be plenty of Dungeness crab available for the Christmas holiday season, especially live Dungeness crabs, the Register-Guard reported Monday.

Oregon fishermen last year were paid $1.65 (€1.12) a pound at the start of the 2006 season.

It’s the first time in three years the season will start on time, as price disputes and small-sized crabs delayed boats from going out on the first day the past two years.

Al Pazar, chairman of the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission, told the newspaper negotiations went smoothly this time thanks to the help of state mediators.
