West Coast Dungeness crab fishermen and processors agreed over the weekend to open the season at $2.30 (€1.74) per pound.

That number is significantly up from last year, when the groups had agreed to a beginning price of $1.75 (€1.33) per pound.

“I think they got the best opening price that they’ve ever had,” Dungeness Crab Commission Executive Director Nick Furman told IntraFish.

Yet fishermen in the south of the state will have to wait to take advantage of that price. One section of the coast, from Gold beach to the California border, will remain closed until Jan.
