Omega Protein Corp., which runs three processing plants in Louisiana and one in Reedville, will not divert its gulf fleet to the East Coast nor does is plan to step up its efforts in the Chesapeake Bay.
"I don't see it affecting our East Coast operations one bit," Ben Landry, a spokesman for the Houston-based company, said about the spill.
Scouring the bay and Atlantic Ocean with a fleet of airplanes and boats, Omega catches millions of menhaden each year. Considered too boney and smelly for human consumption, Omega turns the fish into vitamins, animal feed, fertilizer and other products.
