The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Center's Ocean Wise conservation program released a list of top 10 Canadian sustainable seafood for 2015:
- Albacore tuna
- Dungeness crab
- Pacific halibut
- Pacific sardine
- Salmon (chinook, chum, coho, pink, sockeye)
- Shellfish (clams, mussels, oysters, scallops)
- Shrimp (spot prawns, sidestripe, humpback, pink)
- Walleye
- White sturgeon
- Yellow perch
- Spot prawns
Ocean Wise partnered with Clark, Johansen and other Chefs’ Table Society members to promote the short spot prawn season, which kicks off with a Spot Prawn Festival each spring. Spot prawns, The majority of spot prawns help reduce the pressure placed on mangrove forests, which are clear-cut to farm unsustainable tiger prawns.
