New Zealand King Salmon’s application to the country’s Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) for nine new farms was heard by a board of inquiry in Blenheim, New Zealand, on July 27, as costs for this expansion inflated from NZD 2.5 million ($2 million/€1.6 million) to NZD 8 million ($6.5 million/€5.25 million).
This development comes on the back of lobby group Sustain Our Sounds (SOS), which has appealed to the public for further donations as it wages a battle against the king salmon farmer in a quest to "warn the community about the potential risks of expanding salmon farming in the Marlborough Sounds [the area where the company’s farms are based."
