Norwegian seafood company Atlantic Sapphire is in the final stages of zeroing in on site for a 3,000 metric ton capacity salmon farm on the east coast of the United States, a company partner told IntraFish.

"We are negotiating with two states for the site," said Johan Andreassen, chairman of the board of Atlantic Sapphire, the company that will build and operate the farm. "We should decide on the final site by June, and production will start by late 2013."

Atlantic Sapphire is targeting the fresh salmon market on the East Coast and Midwest of the United States, Andreassen said.
