Neither the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC) nor the Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs (NMFCA) say they have heard anything about the problem revealed by Shanghai Dazhong Vice President Kong Wei.
“It’s encouraging that Norwegian fish has such a good reputation in China,” Ashild Nakken, NSEC’s fisheries delegate to China, told IntraFish.
Vidar Ulriksen, NMFCA undersecretary, echoed the sentiments.
“We know there have been a few instances of fish being incorrectly labeled as Norwegian – but not to the extent depicted here,” Ulriksen said.
