“Once the farmers have slaughtered all the big fish and any small fish that have been affected by disease, prices will rise to a considerably better level than where they are today,” NSEC market analyst Paul Aandahl told IntraFish.

This summer has seen widespread salmon harvesting due to fish thriving in warmer seas. Many fish have been slaughtered earlier than normal, further adding to pressures on the markets, said Aandahl.

Nearly 600,000 tons of salmon was slaughtered in Norway in 2006. Early this year, it appeared volume growth could hit 20 percent in 2007.
