Increased salmon harvests before Easter was one of the reasons cited by producers and buyers for the price decline.
Large amounts of bigger fish in these year’s harvests are putting price levels under pressure. Favorable sea temperatures allowed Atlantic salmon along the Norwegian coast to grow more than average so far in 2007.
Some reports say around 60 percent of fish harvested fall into the six-kilogram weight class. The market normally prefers a smaller salmon.
