IntraFish expects average salmon prices to start the week at NOK 23.28 (€2.88/$3.85) -- down NOK 0.80 (€0.09/$0.13) on the previous week -- for the most popular sizes four-to-five-kilogram sizes.
Around 40 percent of Norway’s salmon exports fall into this category.
Salmon producers can’t quite agree on the reasons for falling prices. Some say it’s the number of large fish available. Others point to the number of smaller fish.
Around 14,500 tons were made available to the market last week. Though the figure is a slight drop on the previous week, quantities are still akin to those normally seen in the run up to Christmas.
