Ole Arvid Misund, director of the Bergen, Norway-based Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, is happy this year is the 50th anniversary of Norwegian-Russian marine research cooperation in the Barents Sea.
Misund took the opportunity to mention this during his keynote speech at a seminar in Trondheim, Norway, last week.
Besides providing a historic look back at the joint Norwegian-Russian effort, Misund spoke about current problems the arrangement faces. He told the audience a lack of finance is preventing marine research scientists in Murmansk from accomplishing what they set out to do.
