Norwegian salmon exporters have seen an exceptional growth in demand for fresh salmon fillets from the United States and Japan so far this year, according to new figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

While France remained the biggest market for fresh Norwegian salmon fillets through week 14 this year, sales have taken a hit and dropped from 4,937 metric tons last year to 4,308 metric tons this year.

Exports to the United States climbed a staggering 73.1 percent from 691 metric tons up until week 14 in 2013, to 2,572 metric tons during the same period this year.
