The social liberal party Venstre was the only party in the Norwegian parliament to vote against state participation in the private placement issue at Cermaq's annual general meeting (AGM) on May 21.

If implemented, the share issue would enable Cermaq to buy Peruvian fishmeal and fish oil producer Copeinca. The Industry Committee’s recommendation was approved by 96 votes against Venstre’s one vote.

In the debate on Tuesday evening, Venstre’s leader and Venstre’s parliamentary leader, Trine Skei Grande, said; “the firm we’re discussing here, Cermaq, shouldn’t be a part of what is important for the state to own.
