After several years of Norwegian foot-dragging, the MSC is expected to begin certifying some types of Norwegian seafood with its eco-label in the not-too-distant future.
“We are ready for environmental certification of our fish, and it is our customers in Europe that are pushing for this development,” said Morten Hyldbord Jensen, sales director of Norwegian whitefish harvester Aker Seafoods.
There are two Norwegian saithe fisheries currently under MSC pre-assessment.
“I can’t see any harm in letting the MSC look into Norwegian fisheries. There are more possibilities rather than threats in such a move,” Jensen said.
