Norway ups mackerel quota 70,000 metric tons

Its ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs set the quota at 190, 802 metric tons, an increase of 70, 352 metric tons on 2008.

According to the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) spawning stocks of mackerel have increased substantially since 2002, and the condition of the population is considered to be good.

This is a unilaterally set quota in accordance with the agreement and annexes signed by the three states last year, Johan Williams, of the Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, told IntraFish.
