European Union (EU) and Norwegian officials are meeting on Monday, Jan. 27, in Bergen, Norway, to finally go ahead with the long-delayed talks to decide the 2014 total allowable catches (TACs) for the North Sea.
However, whether any deal is reached will be strongly influenced by a coastal states meeting on international pelagic stocks which was due to be held this week.
EU/Norway talks at the end of last year foundered on the back of the long-running North East Atlantic mackerel conflict with Faroe and Iceland and the failure to reach an agreement on the share-out of the stock with Iceland and the Faroes.
