Marine Harvest's application to set up a fish farm at Terjan in Somna, Nordland County, was rejected by the county's governor's office.
Terjan is situated in Horsvaer nature reserve, and was declared protected by royal resolution in 2002.
The conservation regulations state it is prohibited to establish a marine farm within the conservation area, which was pointed out by the Nordland County Governor’s office in its rejection reply to Marine Harvest.
“We are assuming the application was based on a misunderstanding, and that this has been confused with the conservation regulation for Hensteinen, Horsvaer and Gimsan bird preservation areas, which have exemption access for marine farming.
