Based on recommendations made earlier this month by the North Pacific Fishery Management Council, NMFS said in a Federal Register announcement Tuesday it is decreasing the Gulf of Alaska Pacific cod catch to 59,563 metric tons from the 60,102 metric tons established by the final 2009 and 2010 harvest specifications for groundfish in the Gulf of Alaska.
In its recommendation, the council boosted the Gulf of Alaska pollock catch for 2010 to 84,745 metric tons, up from the 74,330 metric tons established by the final 2009 and 2010 GOA harvest specifications.
