The NGO put out a press release last week, crowing about the removal of Kona kampachi from the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch list.

Food & Water Watch, along with a Native Hawaiian group, the Kanaka Council, said the reason the fish was removed from the popular list – used by millions of people to help them make sustainable choices when ordering fish – was because of environmental concerns about the farming methods and a lack of respect for Native Hawaiian customs by Kona Blue Water Farms, which grows the fish on the Big Island of Hawaii.
