Olivier le Nézet, president of the recently established Blue Fish, an NGO set up to promote sustainable and responsible fisheries, welcomed the compromise reached recently in the European Parliament on deep water fishing.
"A compelling reason for not banning deep sea trawling is that the stocks have already demonstrated recovery within ten years, as has been shown by the most recent ICES recommendations for the three main species, roundnose grenadier, blue ling and black scabbard that are all at MSY [maximum sustainable yield],” le Nézet said.
