Environmental Defense confirmed to IntraFish on Thursday it is stopping its aquaculture work, except for maintaining a small connection to the World Wildlife Fund-led Aquaculture Dialogues.
The organization is halting its corporate programs related to seafood, and will focus solely on catch-share issues for commercial fisheries, said spokesman Tom Lalley.
Rebecca Goldburg, who used to lead aquaculture issues for Environmental Defense, left the group to join Pew Charitable Trust, and there are no plans to replace her, he said. Tim Fitzgerald will continue whatever work on aquaculture the NGO may have.
