National Fisheries Institute (NFI) Shrimp Council Chairman Bill Dresser, president of Sea Port, shared his thoughts on a rocky 2015, and his optimistic take on the work the council will do for the shrimp industry this year.

The council offered an overview of its work to IntraFish last January. What has changed since then?

Unlike the 2010 Dietary Guidelines, the updated US Dietary Guidelines do not include a recommendation to limit cholesterol from foods. While the Harvard Study and others have long indicated that cholesterol in shrimp is not a problem – consumers have continued to believe that if they have a cholesterol issue they need to avoid shrimp.
