Reading, U.K.-based Tuna Retail Sales Ltd. owns artisan boats in the yellowfin tuna fishery off Sri Lanka, and is inspecting its vessels in preparation for application to the label.
“We’re working on [yellowfin] tuna for MSC now. It’ll take some time, it could take a year or two,” Operations Manager Maria Devaz told IntraFish.
The push to gain Friend of the Sea certification -- and next MSC -- was driven “not really demand from buyers, it’s just to accredit existing methods which we’ve been doing for years and years," Devaz said.
