New Zealand's seafood industry reported NZD 1.7 billion (€1 billion/$1.2 billion) worth of exports in the 12 months up to March 2016, a record high according to Tim Pankhurst, chief executive at Seafood New Zealand.

“This is an 11.4 percent increase on the previous year and an NZD 80 million [€48 million/$54.8 million] increase on the previous high of NZD 1.63 billion [€977.9 million/$1.1 billion] for the 2015 calendar year,” Pankhurst said.

The strong growth accelerated in the first quarter of this year, he said.
