The practice of shipping shrimp to Morocco for hand peeling from Holland could be phased out within the next five years, thanks to a new machine.
According to NOS, at the moment 'fresh' Dutch shrimp is actually often already a few weeks old, after a trip to Morocco and back.
But the Kant family from Groningen Leens has developed a peeling machine which could render this practice unnecessary within the next five years.
At the moment, shrimp caught in the Wadden Sea and North Sea are cooked on board, cooled and preserved.
