New French fishing group to control 40% of quotas

The two POs -- FROM Bretagne and PROMA -- will form Pecheurs Manche Atlantique, a single organisation to represent fishermen along the coast stretching from Cherbourg to Pornic, IntraFish sister publication Fishing News International reports.

With reductions in fishing opportunities, those running FROM and PROMA saw a strong structure is needed to be as effective as possible, said Tristan Douard of PROMA.

“These were already the biggest POs in France in terms of both volumes and values, but with the merger between the two organizations, we have responsibility for around a third of the volumes and values landed in France and approximately 40 percent of French quotas,” said Douard.
