There’s a certain air of nervousness surrounding the Norwegian stockfish market. Even though by the end of August almost 45 percent more stockfish had been exported, export value only improved 17 percent.

Despite high output from Lofoten and production geared up by self-producers in Finnmark, the picture is still not clear about prospects for clipfish sales this year.

And hope is hanging on by a few thin threads -- hope the Norwegian kroner will weaken against the euro and dollar this fall, and that the African markets will have a greater presence.
