The measures will be applicable to farms in the 35 neighborhoods established earier this year by the country's Directorate of Fisheries (SERNAPESCA) in Regions 10 and 11.
Based on the law, companies that breach sanitary regulations will receive large fines, which will be given before they can contest them in court. There will be regulations on transportation and common harvesting periods, with three-month rest periods to rehabilitate growing areas.
The bill strengthens SERNAPESCA's authority, increases fines for those who break the regulations, and limits the authorization of new salmon farming permits in Region 10.
