The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified products list has grown 21 percent since September 2012, according to the ecolabel's latest market figures, which were released this week at the Seafood Expo Global 2014 in Brussels.
Nicolas Guichoux, Global Commercial Director, said the new data, up to September 2013, shows the certification list has increased five times in the previous four years and is worth an estimated $4.5 billion. Retail figures are roughly 40 percent more.
Currently there are 221 certified fisheries in the MSC program with an additional 106 in assessment, which represent 10.5
