The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is investigating the possibility Chinese plants are selling Russian, non-certified, pollock as certified, after being contacted by the Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP), a generic marketing body representing once-frozen, US-caught pollock.

“We are taking the concerns raised by GAPP very seriously and have already begun an investigation, working together with GAPP and our certifiers,” Simon Edwards, MSC global communications director, told IntraFish.

The investigation is in its early stages, he said.

“We will take further actions as necessary based on the findings of the investigation to ensure the integrity of MSC-certified supply chains is not compromised by mislabeling or fraud,” said Edwards.
